The project consists of a new, stand alone Sports Centre for a Sidcup Sixth Form. The college has been a constant client over a ten year period and this is the latest in a succession of successful additions and changes.
The brief called for a three badminton court sports hall with the flexibility and equipment to play numerous indoor sports but also to double as an examination space with adequate furniture storage.
A large multi – gym is included with the facilities together with carefully designed and considered changing facilities, that allow for individual showering and secure personal storage.
The Sports Hall incorporates side walls of Kalwall a translucent material that provides diffused natural light without glare and an acceptable level of thermal insulation.
The building has 365 PV panels fixed to the sports hall roof, green roofs on the lower levels and has achieved a BREEAM rating of ‘Very Good’.
Externally a multi use games area (MUGA) has been provided, to a size that accommodates three tennis courts, five a side football, hockey and basketball games in various combinations.
